Biography: 
Vicky Isley *1974 / Paul Smith *1975
since 2000 boredomresearch creates software-based art, which can be experienced as objects or as online and interactive work. The works are designed with high aesthetic standards, both visually and acoustically by the sound compositions of individual objects, and in content deal with the issue of “artificial intelligence”. Natural ecosystems are modeled, in which evolution is created by means of computer viruses, while the viewer has the feeling of watching the process through a microscope. Boredomresearch is also characteristic of the reference to the Asian painting, which is underlined by an ornamental style and a sensitive use of colors. The works are mainly based on proprietary software, such as the objects are designed as wall or ground objects and are reminiscent of portholes, through which one can see into another world.

boredomresear ch consists of collaboration between Vicky Isley and Paul Smith. Currently they are Research Fellows in Computer Animation & Computer Art at the National Centre for Computer Animation, Bournemouth University, UK (2005-2008). As boredomresearch they have an international reputation for its research into the creative role of digital media attained. Her works are a part of the British Council Library.
