Biography:
11.3.1969 Born in Fairfield, Connecticut, NC (US)
Gorgeous. Outrageous. Wildly colorful. David LaChapelle's unfettered images have redefined the way editors look at their magazines and turned fashion on its head. His photography style can be compared to no one.
Mixing glamour with comic fantasy, LaChapelle's work never fails to surprise and delight. He continues to push his colors to new extremes while reinventing the vivid palette that is uniquely his.
Born in North Carolina, LaChapelle studied at the Art Student's League and School of Visual Arts. He began his photography career by creating fine art images for Interview Magazine and has evolved his photography into an idiosyncratic and highly personal combination of reportage and surrealism. Awarded Best New Photographer of the Year by both French Photo Magazine and American Photo Magazine in 1995, he also was named 1996 Photographer of the Year at the VH-1 Fashion Awards, and more recently received the International Center of Photography's Applied Photography Award.
Widely published in fashion, music and entertainment magazines, he also shoots print and television for prestigious clients such as Jean Paul Gaultier, Giorgio Armani, MTV, Pepsi, Levis and Diesel With two coffee table books to his name, LaChapelle Land and Hotel Lachapelle, Lachapelle is one of photography's brightest stars, bringing high intensity, larger than life images to the pages of magazines worldwide.
