Diploma from Painting at the Warsaw Academy of fine arts.

The painter’s instinct, sensitivity pulsating with city’s element, boyish curiosity, intent detailed observation – these are the important attributes of his work. He paints destroyed, used objects, city filths passively floating on the wind blast, nooks in the apartments, tracks of events. By choosing fragments, he frames the area of the picture, looking deep inside, as looking into a dream.

Silently, calmly, nostalgic. Nikic' tracks the smallest trails of human’s activity, that in their briefness are very variable. He conducts attentive process of analysis, asking questions about the smallest details – why? Trails lead to unexpected discoveries, which he documents in his paintings. Together they create a coherent story about over-real world of ignored fragments of reality. Very often in his spying and tracking of reasons he steps back in to the past, which makes that through documenting the passing of time we have the impression, that his paintings tell us about peaceful and logic, existential process of aging and destruction. Nikic' composes the classical concept of painting with conceptual arranged whole. Each of his paintings alone is very poetic, being together an integrity. But they are just “exhibits” in the long process of exposing the truth.

The paintings are phenomenal, painted softly, usually in calm colour, their form strongly contrasting with the chosen subject. They are the prospect of conjuncture, the way it is. They are not a documentation, but a clearly poetic reference to the close, experienced reality. Precious reflections about the world, which sometimes lives too fast, consuming too much, demands too much.

Ivo Nikic' uses in his work painting, photography, video; creates objects and installations. Active on many levels: cocreates the “flying szu szu gallery”, he was one of the initiator of the “Nova Polska 70-80” project in Lille (France 2004), “Lajfstyle Magazine” editor. Granted with the Ministry of Culture’s prize.
