1935 Born in Lübeck, Holstein, SH (DE)
Klasen has lived and worked in Paris since 1959. Due to his methodical attention to detail, Klasen's work conveys a photographic quality. He is, however, not interested in creating photo-like paintings as are many hyper- realistic artists. His motifs might be a close-up image of a pipe, a truck or an ambulance. And some of Klasen's works cannot be identified unless reading the title. "Camion Bache Bleu", for example, is a truck with a blue cover, but one never can be sure what is hidden behind the surface of things. Indeed, it is this "deconcealing" of the danger that is hidden within the banal that marks the real force of Klasen's work.
