Stephen Chambers´ work is about people, even though people do not always appear in his paintings. When they do, the figures are isolated, vulnerable. They occasionally appear in pairs/twins, or the same person seen twice. Chambers has a curiosity about these relationships. The idea of being watched and watching intrigues him. He sees the painting as a silent conversation with the viewer. He wants to develop a curiosity in his viewer; to seduce, to suggest ideas and thoughts, to evoke a sense of recognition in the imagination. He wants us to experience the "feeling" of his painting, his own personal experiences, his own fears, his memories of childishness tinged with a darker adult knowing.
