Biography: 
1971 Born in Paris (FR)
Yto Barrada was educated in Tangier; at the Sorbonne, where she studied history and political science; and at the International Centre of Photography in New York.
In The Strait Project Barrada brings together photographs, video and texts to examine the unique character of the Strait of Gibraltar - at once symbolic, physical, historical and intimately personal. Work from the Project (which spans 1999-2003) has been exhibited at the Fondacion Tapies (Barcelona), With de Witte (Rotterdam), the Villa Medici (Rome), the Museum of Modern Art (New York) the Mead Museum ( Warwick) ICP (New-York) Biennale Venice (Arsenale, selection of Robert Storr)…
Barrada is a founder and the Director of Programming of the Cinémathèque de Tanger, Morocco's only movie theater for independent cinema and repertory programming, which opened in 2007.
