Alfred Hrdlicka, installation view, 1999 (all rights reserved) | | |
Alfred Hrdlicka, born in 1928 in Vienna, is one of the most famous sculptors in Austria. After a classical training in painting and sculpture he gave courses in various art schools in Germany and Austria. In 1964 he participated in the Biennale of Venice. In 1991 hew completed the monument Mahnmal gegen Krieg und Faschismus at the Albertinaplatz, Vienna. In the years 1992-99 Alfred Hrdlicka participated in many one man shows around the world. (i.e. Germany, Austria, France, China, Hungary.)
A large part of Alfred Hrdlickas work consists of drawings, sculptures, paintings and prints. The drawings do have a very singular position: sometimes they are studies made directly on the stone, sometimes they are “painted drawings”, made in series. In this exhibition Alfred Hrdlicka shows his first work with the Nibelungentreue, for which he is going to design the decor and costumes in the production of the Bayreuther Festspiele next year.
A catalogue will be available at the end of march. |
