Andreas Rüthi, Still life with Manet, 2009 oil on linen 20.5 x 30.5cm
Born in Zürich in 1956, Andreas studied German and Philosophy at the University of Zürich, before travelling to the UK to study at the Watford College of Art and Design in the late 1980's. Andreas was also a student at the Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, between 1987 and 1990. The artist currently lives and works in Wales, where he is Senior Lecturer of Fine Art at the Newport School of Art, Media and Design at the University of Wales, Newport.
Rüthi has exhibited extensively throughout Europe, the US and UK including over 20 solo and well over 40 group exhibitions including, most recently, the Summer Show at the Royal Academy of Art, London in 2007, The Wales Portrait Award which toured Wales in 2007 and The Wonderful Fund exhibitions in 2005 (Morocco) and 2006 (Chichester).
His work is held in the collections of Credit Suisse, Ernst & Young, Deutsche Bank, Tower Place Art Collection, London and the Arts Council of England and other important corporate, public and private collections worldwide.
Rüthi is working towards an exhibition in 2012 at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, one of Wales' oldest museums, currently under renovation.
This is Rüthi's second exhibition at Niagara Galleries, the first being in 2003, and we are delighted that he will be travelling to Melbourne for the opening. Whilst here, he will also be a guest lecturer at RMIT.
