Art Osaka 2014
Art Osaka started in 2002 by a group of local galleries in Osaka to showcase the forefront of Kansai (Osaka, Kyoto, Kobe etc.) art scene. The fair is the oldest contemporary art fair in Japan and distinguished from other fairs in the following manners.
First, we aim to show new trends and phenomena among art scenes in different part of Japan with emphasis on Kansai area presented by younger generations. We offer each gallery an extra room, EXHIBITION PLUS, to encourage to hold special exhibitions including thematic, one-person exhibition and installation by emerging artists.
Secondly, as Osaka is geographically closer to Korea, Taiwan and China, we focus on networking with Asian art communities and established partnerships with art communities in Korea and Taiwan. We regularly hold symposiums and special exhibitions with Korean and Taiwanese galleries as part of fair programs.
The number of participating galleries is over 50, which not only from Kansai area, but also different part of Japan including Tokyo, Kanazawa, Hokkaido as well as Korea and Taiwan and more.
