artgenève is a new exhibition of modern and contemporary art, whose first edition in April 2012 was a success, both commercially and in terms of its programming. The second edition will be held from 31st January to 3rd February 2013, a key period for luxury tourism in Geneva and strategic dates in the art fair calendar. Taking place in a refined atmosphere and on human scale, artgenève is a true reflection of Geneva itself, a pleasant city of international renown.
Our aim is to establish an artistic platform in the Suisse Romande - at the very forefront of contemporary & modern art and design – which pays homage to the requirements of the Lake Geneva region’s many collectors and art-lovers. In the first edition this was achieved by the presence of major local galleries and dealers.
For its 2013 edition, from January 31st to February 3rd, artgenève will showcase exclusive international galleries from Europe, whilst at the same time raising the profile of other key players on the art scene, such as museums, collections and off spaces. We truly believe in the great dynamism that can be born from dialogue between galleries and institutions. And we are very happy to have again the Geneva art world on-board.
The Fair’s architecture and layout are inspired by this diversity and will enable the audience to discover the richness of the activities of the art world.
A comprehensive programme has been put in place, with a prize for art critics and new one for solo shows by the galleries, conferences, performances, special exhibitions and the presentation of two private Genevan collections – to name but a few.
These events have seen the light of day thanks to the commitment of various personalities from the local and international art scene, who are convinced of the high level targeted by the show and equally of the need to develop a new commercial art platform in the Geneva area.
The objective of Thomas Hug and Simon Lamunière, respectively Director and Chairman of the Salon, is to establish an artistic platform in the Suisse Romande at the forefront of contemporary art, modern art and design, which honours the requirements of the regions many collectors and art-lovers. In the first edition, this was made possible, in particularly thanks to the participation of art dealers and leading gallery owners. This success has prompted UBS and AXA Art to become the exhibition’s official sponsors, adding to the Ruinart Champagne and Teo Jakob design furniture sponsorships already in place for the 2012 edition.
For VIP’s and professionals, this rendezvous will be further enhanced by organised visits to three private collections and receptions at the Musée de l’Ariana as well as at the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire.
artgenève therefore completes Geneva’s offering of modern and contemporary art with an up-market show to join its museums, its gallery districts (The Quartier des Bains, the Art en Vieille-Ville and the Quartier de l’Étoile associations), together with important public art projects such as the Neon Parallax and complemented by Geneva’s Free Port bonded facility, by becoming the international arts event of the Suisse Romande.
