Asgar & Gabriel In den Fängen des roten Oktopus Öl auf Leinwand, 270 x 220 cm 2009 | | |
"With the quote „The Loves of the Plants", we site a book from Erasmus Darwin, that in its peculiar form centred at the breaking point of poetry and science along with his whimsical verses, has accompanied us for the development of the exhibition. The book narrates (love) adventures of an anthropomorphic plant world. The fantastic tone, the mythological bonds, but also some of the designs registered political commentary create an atmosphere that is related to our ironic images of quasi post-apocalyptic scenarios. In doing so, we attempt to fathom the particular possibilities across a merely mimetic approximation of the world that paintings distinguish from different visual media. We are working on a visual language whose intrinsic moment is the resolution and which draws its tension from the simultaneity of figuration and abstraction." (Asgar/Gabriel) |
