Arte Alchemia – Towards a New World
16th of August – 20th of September 2008
SPECTA is happy to present the solo exhibition ”Arte Alchemia – Towards a New World” by Augusta Atla. The Danish artist has already achieved great interest among art-collectors in Europe, she has received the Danish Talent Award from Horsens Art Museum, she has lectured at Academies of Fine Art and Architecture in Denmark, UK, USA, Canada, Italy, Norway, incl. Princeton University, USA. And at Goldsmith’s College, London, UK, she was honored with the special Talent Award in 2005 given by the Head of (BFA) Visual Arts Department.
The works by Augusta Atla takes its point of departure in the idea of the professional autonomy of the artist. To her the division between “Working” and “The Artwork” is not distinct and such line will always be blurred. Augusta Atla does not distinguish between the artwork and her own life, since the actual making of the artwork essentially takes origin in Existence. With this approach she opens the definitions of the art-object and its relationship to the audience.
Augusta Atla adds the scale of her body and ”Being” to the ideas of ‘Geometry’ and ‘Abstract Measurement’. As one of her manifestoes declares, she dedicates her own body and her life to her work; a body of work, which persistently explores and maps the physics and ‘Being’ of the body. According to Augusta Atla it is inevitable that art emphasize the solidarity between body and spirit, since art expresses the collaboration between the intellect (spirit) and the body (perception), two concepts that cannot be separated in her work.
Performance, icons, drawings, painting, sculpture, photography, studies, instruments, theory, poetry and mappings constitute the medias of Augusta Atla’s works, all works to encircle on the presence of the body. There will be a performance during the opening of the exhibition in SPECTA. Saturday the 6th of September at 3-5 pm there will be a performance in connection to the event ‘Kopenhagen Contemporary’.
Augusta Atla (born DK 1979) is educated at Goldsmiths College 2006 (BFA). She has had solo shows at SPECTA 2006, Tou Scene in Stavanger (NO) 2006, and at Horsens Art Museum (DK) 2007, where she achieved the Young Talent Award. Furthermore she has participated in a number of group exhibitions in London, New York, Rome as well as in SPECTA. The work of Augusta Atla include lectures, events and performance. www.atla.dk
I want to introduce a new Era in Art History, a time where the field of Fine Art is mistrusted as a medium for ‘Truth’, and therefore Fine Art regrettably ends up defined as either ‘Visual Art’ or ‘Visual Communication’, which essentially Fine Art is most certainly NOT! (........) Arte Alchemia does constitute and focus this turn in history; that is, the work of art is the only object with which we can truly approximate our Origin, - Nature; such approximation is defined as ‘Process of Alchemy’.
