12 artists from Prof. Monika Brandmeier's class at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts [HfBK] show work in the gallery of dr. julius | ap
This exhibition is the continuation of the series voraus/ahead introducing the work of students from several art schools, which began last year with a show by three artists from Prof. Gregor Schneider's class at the Berlin University of the Arts.
Twelve artists were chosen from Prof. Monika Brandmeier's class at the HfBK Dresden whose artistic perspectives connect in the broadest sense to the gallery's aesthetic program. automatisch ungerecht introduces young artists whose approach is more constructive than narrative, more architectonic than plastic, more analytic than expressive:
Patxi Bergé, Julia Boswank, Lisbeth Daecke, Jakob Flohe, Daniela Gaete Fontirroig, Olga Grigoriewa, Laura Hoffmann, Konstantin Kunath, Andreas Schliebenow, Juliane Schmidt, Maria Schwerdtner and Magnus Sönning.
This exhibition shows several possibilities for an artistic dramaturgy which is not based in narrative figuration. The class sees, hears, detaches, builds, defines and judges possible indicators of space. Space is the connecting medium-the works here reorganize and reform space. The artistic positions displayed question concepts of abstraction and formation.
And this is precisely the crux of it: how to discuss matter and materials without letting them disappear behind an image? How to put these under a microscope without causing them to lose their vital interrelations? What is the point of "truth to materials"? Something is always given short shrift.
Brandmeier's class is not complete in this exhibition: this already is automatically unjust.
