Brooke Lydecker - Myths, Tales & More
Fine Art Photography
Brooke Lydecker, a young, up and coming Californian Photographer, crafted her art while studying and working in Arizona, California, Europe and South Africa. She holds a degree in Photographic Arts and Sciences from The Brooks Institute of Photography, Santa Barbara., California. Her first large series 'Myths and Tales' is inspired by her own life and dreams. Every image is thought out in detail and carefully staged to capture her inspiration. As a gifted stylist and with her own inventory of props, she personally creates the mood and visual setting for each shot in this serial. Diffused perspectives, achieved by using pinhole photography transferred on Polaroid, create an almost transcendent expression - like notations of memories, which come and go. The colors and light in this series are reminiscent of Paintings of the Golden Age (Dutch) or Les Fauves (French Expressionists) 'Exotic World' an extremely colorful body of work, documents a famous burlesque stripper event in the Desert of Victorville. Lydecker's artistic interpretation contradicts the almost voyeuristic approach to the subject and creates an exciting sensuality. This series is been shown the first time in the USA. And last, but not least, her latest series has even its World Premier at Huntington Beach.
Lydecker approaches with 'Nostalgia' one of the top icons in our society - Classic Automobiles. Avoiding the immaculate reproduction of the subject, as we know it from advertising campaigns, her images are about the emotional impact these objects create, the tracks they leave in our memory. Tracks of Beauty, Power, and Desire. It's more about the aura and personality of these cars than their design details. Brooke. Lydecker's work has been presented in Group shows at Paris Photo, France, Museum de Beyerd, Breda, Netherlands, Art Rotterdam, NL and Photo L.A. . Solo exhibitions of her work took place in Duesseldorf, Germany and San Francisco. From December 7th - 10th OMC Gallery will present Brooke Lydecker's Oeuvre also at Scope Miami 2006, a prestigious International Fair for Contemporary Art. |
