Crhistina Darras - i hate to be controlled
Opening night: Thursday 12 June 2008, 8.00pm
Zoumboulakis Galleries, 20 Kolonaki Square
Zoumboulakis Galleries proudly presents "I hate to be controlled", a solo exhibition by Christina Darras. Exhibition opens on 12 June 2008.
The show contains a series of paintings (acrylic on canvas) that burst with vigorous colors and dense composition, and portray Darras' trademark anthropomorphic animals, her distinct motifs and figures from fairytales. It also contains portraits of real people. As Darras explains "… They illustrate the brain's complexity, when dealing with emotions, memories, instructions, desires, in an attempt to create a landscape of the psyche. The goal is to treat with the same fluidity real or imaginary elements, which exist there to remind us that after all everything ends up at reality".
A series of intensingly fluid, monochromatic pencil-drawings in the colors of the rainbow and two photographs complete Darras' world.
The works neither seek subversion nor a serious-looking approach. On the contrary they invest in the melancholy and the emotionally charged nature of the characters they portray, characters ultimately convinced that they do not want to be controlled!
