DIE WAHREN ORTE
In Herman Melvilles novel "Moby Dick" (1851) Captain Ahab is seeking for the island Rokovoko, an island "far away to the West and South". The quest turns out to be difficult and he notices "It is not down in any map. True places never are."

The true places don't exist, probably never have, and yet art is formulating initiatives, tries to create places and placings, moments of decelaration and enlightenment. Places, which phrase spirituality and culture, destroyed by war and globalization.

In the new premises of our gallery, over a period of four months, the exhibition will develop itself with associative permanence. Particular pieces will be replaced, others will stay and so the exhibition refuses the regular event of an "opening". Basically there will be three intertwining groups of works, which flow into the project "in situ - construction place". The prologue for "in situ" is established by Miao Xiaochun's photographs of Olympic construction zones in Beijing and the set up of a new installation, a sculpture build for the visitors of the gallery, by Documenta 12 participant Ai Wei Wei.

The ongoing process DIE WAHREN ORTE and the associated works of art will be shown and documented continually on the website www.alexanderochs-galleries.com.
