"An artist who use paintings as objects, objects like paintings, words like sour candy and humor as an affectionate knife. " Armando Montesinos, art critic.
Luis Adelantado Gallery is pleased to announce the first solo show by Elena Blasco (Madrid, 1950). The show is titled "Microclimate, delicious thing", and the gallery has made a careful selection of Blasco's work, which reflects the multidisciplinary nature and the overwhelming symbolic universe developed by the artist.
Since her solo show at the gallery Angel Romero in Madrid in 1986, in which she creates the basis of her language and begins her heterodoxy in the use of materials, she has claimed the importance of looking beyond stagnate techniques or disciplines. Her work combine multiple materials and techniques ranging from acrylic paint to polyester foam, cloth', acetates or everyday objects, bluring the boundaries between photography, painting, sculpture and installation.
The artistic production of Elena Blasco has changed little in the last 30 years and yet continues in full force from a current perspective. Throughout her long career she has been able to develop and consistently maintain from the sidelines, a personal poetry, quietly, and away from practices and dictates from prevailing trends.
She possesses a seemingly naive style in form and content, her works exude irony and rebellion to tell us about the incongruities of everyday life, prejudice, violence against women and social injustices.
To this critical view, joins an expressionistic use of color and a use of materials that leave much room for improvisation and chance. As summarized by the artist: "The materials are the engine; what stimulates me. You direct them but they work on their own."
Elena Blasco, has had numerous solo and group shows in countries like USA, Netherlands, Germany, France, Venezuela, Mexico and Japan, the most recent being the most complete "Millions and abundant reasons" at the space; Alcala 31 in Madrid which ended last May. Her works are represented in museums and collections such as MNCARS, ARTIUM, the Patio Herreriano Museum, National Library, Arts Center Caja de Burgos, Albertina Collection (Austria), Fundación La Caixa, L'Oréal Collection, and Coca-Cola Foundation, among others.
