This summer MAMA will present the multimedial project Endless City; a project in which we investigate the relationship between skateboardculture, public space and (visual) arts, with a sidelong reference to the ideas of the International Situationists. Endless City is a project that disintegrates into four related parts featuring the exhibition 720° as the central work in our showroom. Next to 720° we present a alternative city guide of Rotterdam (made by professional Dutch skateboarder Louisa Menke a.o.), a pitch for designing new skateboard furnishings and a choreography through the city of Rotterdam by Conny Janssen Danst (!) on July 17th.
720° is a co-production by MAMA, studiorev and the Rotterdam artist Gyz La Rivière, a new video-installation.
Part of the video-installation is a retrospective (featuring authentic material) of the notorious Dutch pioneer skateboard group Fret Click. Fret Click will be a 55 minute documentary on a tight group of friends from Rotterdam, Amsterdam and the Eindhoven region, who in the early 90's established their name with juvenile mischief, inventiveness on the skateboard and as predecessors of many youth culture trends.
