 ERGÜL CENGIZ, Beyoglu, 2006, Öl auf Nessel, 50 x 50 cm | | |
The core idea of the exhibition is to present contemporary painting positions which focus on
processes of dissolving figurativeness, thus achieving immediacy („interior image landscapes").
However, not only formal painting is brought to light, but a discreet narration in partly rough and
brutal representation. The ominous, gloomy may seem romantically idealized and is often part
of a historicizing concept.
The selected positions crack the world of beautiful appearance, interrupt it and show the abysses
behind it.
Painting often represents a searching for breaking a logical predictability and linearity of its own
development. Indeed, the exhibition presents the dark sides of our knowledge society striving for
enlightenment and brings to light an other kind of profundity.
Paintings by Ergül Cengiz and Isa Schmidlehner are complemented with a video piece
by Diego Perrone. |
