ESTAMPA, 18 YEARS ALONG WITH MULTIPLE CONTEMPORARY ARTS
The 2010 edition will open its doors in Madrid (IFEMA facilities) from October 20th until 24th
ESTAMPA, the International Multiple Contemporary Arts Fair, is turning 18, which is the age of adulthood for an artistic initiative that has today become the most outstanding showcase in Europe regarding exhibition, selling and promotion of contemporary art in all of its editable aspects: from the most traditional engravings to video, photography or any other kind of format.
ESTAMPA will open its doors in the IFEMA facilities in Madrid, from October 20th to 24th and will bring together collectors and multiple contemporary art lovers together at a location where more than 3000 works by well known and young artists will be displayed.
In these 18 years of our continuous engagement with Madrid's autumn, ESTAMPA, not only is considered a first order cultural event, with an annual volume of visitors close to 40,000 people, but has also contributed to establish new collectors and is considered as one of the main selling and expansion channels of contemporary art.
First class Galleries
In its 18th edition, the Fair comes in with renewed strength: new galleries, and first class galleries that have chosen the Fair as a market trampoline, as is the case of Marlborough, Estiarte, Galería Cayon or Moises Perez Albeniz and others equally renowned that have become regulars throughout the years. In this group we can find unequalled companies such as Beneveniste Contemporary, La caja Negra or Factoria Compostela.
ESTAMPA, following the style that was started in its previous editions, will pay special attention to the world of photography, with proposals belonging to specialized and important galleries such as Sicart, Spectrum, Camara Oscura or Photo Gallery 20.
Faithful to our own Fair model, in which we make the quality of the proposals stay on top of quantity, ESTAMPA will take on close to 100 new exhibitors once again, taking national and international galleries as well as institutions that promote the expansion of contemporary art into account.
The huge variety in the works displayed in ESTAMPA, concerning techniques, concepts and formats, as well as prices, which can sway from 300 to 150.000 euros, make this artistic conclave one of the most interesting, catering to the tastes of collectors and professionals and for those people who would like to get started in the collector's world.
Jose Pedro Croft, guest artist
In this edition Jose Pedro Croft (Oporto, Portugal, 1957) is the guest artist and the creator of the official image of the Fair. Jose Pedro Croft will also star in an individual exhibition with his latest works. Croft is considered by the critics as one of the re-modellers of Portuguese sculpture and one of the most representative icons in the international art landscape. Under ESTAMPA's point of view, Jose Pedro Croft perfectly represents the spirit of the Fair, bringing forward work in constant renewal, always playing with the limits of the concept of multiple art.
A Refined Model
The fair has divided the proposals this year in three different areas which as years have gone by, have gained the admiration from visitors and the respect of gallery owners/directors and experts. Along with the general program, made up of galleries mainly, it will also cater to specialized areas such as book-IN, video.ES and TENTACIONES, the latter with a new twist that will bring in a fresh look to the already groundbreaking space.
With book-In, ESTAMPA wants to grant more importance to books, coherently an acclaimed room has been set up for the contemporary art editions. Keeping this in mind, the Fair has opted for a new space layout that will favour the exchange and the presence of relevant publishers and publishing companies, apart from independent publishing companies and museums and art centres that outstand by making their publishing projects relevant. In this sense, Imprimerie d'Alsace-Lozere and Columpio or Ediciones Denis Long have already confirmed their presence.
The idea of a book being a work of art on its own, the comparison of the single object to the multiple object, makes the Fair want to become a reference in the new bibliographic updates within the art world. Concept, design and materials come together in a unique space where the book and the object of the artist will be the absolute star.
Video.ES has video, independent documentaries and experimental cinema as its main formats. This section brings, for the third year, numerous video projects that can be viewed during the Fair and with an around-the-clock time-table in a specific hall. In this section it will be the galleries the ones in charge of introducing those artists they consider ideal candidates for this space thanks to their conditions, technique and styles, going back to the ultimate selection in the organizing committee of the Fair. The creators that take part in video.Es are eligible for various scholarships and also have the possibility of exhibiting their work in specialized festivals.
TENTACIONES, is a section that has become an expansion platform of the rising Spanish creativity, this year it comes along a brand new management model.
From this edition on, it will be the national and international art institutions that each year will assign Fair officials who will be in charge of leading this section and choose the artists who will be exhibiting their projects. With this new idea, CAC de Malaga has chosen Sema D'Acosta (Gerena, Sevilla, 1975) and Juan Francisco Rueda (Malaga, 1977) to take over the management of TENTACIONES 2010.
This rotational model in the TENTACIONES management opens the platform to new views and sensitivities, which will later enrich the artistic background with the intention to scrutinize new ways of expression and to connect creative tendencies which are making their way in the national and international artistic landscape.
Every year, TENTACIONES receives more than a hundred proposals, from which just a maximum of 12 are chosen and exhibited during the Fair. The selected works are also eligible for several prices and grants.
ESTAMPA out of ESTAMPA: video and music
For the first time in its history, ESTAMPA will take one of its activities out of the IFEMA facilities. The Fair has created a video program with the assistance of the National Auditorium, which combines the expressive and musical creation through works meant for video and when projected in the camera room in the Auditorium, will find outstanding acoustic conditions.
This initiative, commissioned by Jose Maria de Francisco (Madrid. 1969), is placed within the Spanish-Portuguese-Mexican encounters that the musical institution will hold in October 2010, and will take place at the same time the Fair will, during October 20th to 24th. These encounters will compile the works of Portuguese, Mexican and Spanish artists, musicians and filmmakers such as Joao Pedro Oliveira, Javier Alvarez, Jose Manuel Ballester, Jose Iges and Concha Jerez, Broto, Manuel Saiz, Manuel Rocha, Juan Carlos Martín, Francis Naranjo, Carlos Casas or Francisco Ruiz Infante, among others.
The exhibition will have a twofold format. On the one side, a concert has been scheduled at the same time the works will be projected in the camera room of the Auditorium. The works are audiovisual pieces, which in its background include strategies of acoustic creation or musical creation and the values of the visual code, that take up different types of aesthetics like visual music and sound art, the creation of electroacoustic videos and independent cinema.
On the other hand, this program concludes with an exhibition on videofacilities that will take on topics such as performing, the learning and intake of music, and which will be set up outside the Auditorium. There will also be a seminar held in partnership with a university, which will bring forward current discussion topics and the prospects of this facet of the audiovisual creation in Spain.
ESTAMPA is making progress this year towards making the Fair something more than just an artistic-cultural event limited to its occurring dates. The organization has taken the decision to provide ESTAMPA with a type of visibility that goes beyond just the four days that the Fair lasts which allows physical contact with the public in the fair facilities in Madrid. The aim will be to become a sales and promotion platform for multiple contemporary arts during the whole year.
In order to accomplish these aims, and taking advantage of the 18th edition of the Fair, ESTAMPA will be launching a new web site (www.estampa.org) an electronic platform that will make searching, choosing and purchasing multiple works in all of its formats, very easy. ESTAMPA will position itself ahead in the e-commerce area in Spain within the art field, taking full advantage of the potential that the new technologies and societies on the Net provide.
VIP Collectors Program
ESTAMPA has launched, for the first time this year, the VIP Collectors program. A program for collectors that will include a variety of activities specially designed for this kind of audience, as well as providing ticket advantages and a free catalogue.
The Arte Global team, a company specialized in art collector's items since 2003, is in charge of managing the project.
With the VIP Collectors program, we look forward to providing a unique experience to this group when visiting the fair, in order to make their search for works and the contact with gallery owners/directors much easier and more attractive. In addition to this, the collectors that belong to VIP Collectors will be exclusively invited to events, tours, opening acts and talks while attending Estampa.
ESTAMPA keeps, just as other fairs do, national as well international, a special time-table for collector's visits.
