From October 20th-23rd 2011, we will be holding our 19th ESTAMPA edition of International Print and Contemporary Art Fair at IFEMA.
After having joined Estampa in December as the Fair’s General Director and the joining of Jose Ramon Nogueras as well, as Manager of the Fair, we are on our way to announcing the different initiatives devoted to the appeal to new audiences and to diversify our activity within a quality selection which will include multiple art in its widest understanding.
The need to update the kind of specialized audience of the fair, have helped us create two specific programmes which will work side by side, in the interest and care of collectors and buyers and on the other hand those professionals whose activity revolve around the art market.
Consequently we have set up a collectors programme called VIP Collector which is led by Sara Martín Prat Bolín and which has the aim to work in the reinforcing of the relation between the collectors and the exhibitors. After having worked for several art galleries in Madrid, Sara Martín Prat Bolín currently manages ArtShopper an art consulting firm, www.arshopper.com, where she is in constant touch with the most active collectors in our market, of a medium to high class status, very much suitable to our fair.
Moreover, this year we will be starting up a new program oriented towards the professionals in our industry, which will be managed by Elisa Hernando and her company www.arteglobal.es, who carried out very similar tasks in Estampa 10 and Arco 11. VIP Professional is oriented towards art consultants, architects, designers, decorators, communicators, who will be part of guided tours and PR along with the exhibitors and their projects.
Regarding these new sections we can proudly announce the creation of Estampa Design Partners, a section commissioned by Oyer Corazon who will exhibit a selection of the works of the best design studios in our country, with the aim to bring the general public to the this scope of creation, which is very close, in many ways, to contemporary art and the production of limited editions.
At the same time we are launching the Photo-Minima proposal, a section supervised and cared by the critic and commissioner Sema D’Acosta, who has arranged a speech on current photography in minimal, intimate, album and memory-bound formats, in dialogue and finally, between artist and viewer.
On the other hand Sound in, along with sister Book in –which have obtained great acceptance in the last two editions- bring forward a section in the fair devoted to the world of sound art edition, under the care of the specialist Miguel Alvarez-Fernandez, commissioner, sound artist and director of Ars Sonora on Radio Clasica RNE (Classic music Radio in Spain) who proposes a closer approach to sound art editors and distributors in Spain.
And lastly we are keeping Video.es, commissioned by Juan Francisco Rueda, in this selection of Spanish video-art which is still considered as a means to reflect on the reality of our time.
One other effort to make is to gain and keep the general public that the fair has always had, trying to improve their attendance and quality by informing them of regular activities. In that sense we are working along with Rocio de Cominges, our communications coordinator and with Goodwill, the press office as well, developing our social networking on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and Youtube, in addition to the brand new website www.estampa.org. Thanks to Estampa Proyectos (Projects Estampa), we have been able to arrange exhibitions and publications with the intention to give the fair a certain degree of prestige and novelty, thus improving the quality of our large general public and luring the specialized ones, to the press and the interest of people in culture.
In this sense we are arranging the 1st Multiple Art Forum to spread the conclusions of the research in this area of contemporary art, with the collaboration of the Telefonica Foundation, the Joan Miro Foundation, and the dx5 Research Group from the University of Vigo, and the Contemporary Art Institute, all of them perfectly coordinated by Javier Blas. As a practical extension of this theoretical forum we have proposed Tentaciones for this year, our proposal and support to emerging art. Tentaciones will be organized by Karin Ohlenschlagër, an amazing commissioner who counts on with great experience and indisputable prestige in multiple and digital art in our country.
In addition to this we are working on a Collector’s Forum which will revolve around art regarding edition, as a specific way of collecting or as the first steps in the building up of collections and especially in its relation with the corporate world, from which different entrepreneurs will share their experience as collectors and as how this activity has influenced their work and social relations.
Another great and attractive initiative for families is the joint collaboration with the Pedagogical Child Art Museum (MUPAI in Spanish) of the Complutense University, through one of its research programs; we will start a children workshop at the weekends. It has been created with the double aim of having the kids amused while their parents visit and shop at the fair, and to use these activities as research material to the MUPAI research Group, the GMUPAI.
We will keep breaking down and updating all of these areas and sections of the fair so that you can all have the most accurate and latest information about each of them. We are at your disposal in order to inform you on further details regarding several aspects of the fair.
Lastly we would like to point out that we have made a great effort by reducing our prices, for the third year in a row, at an average of 10%, therefore fixing a single cost per section and stand size, with no extra charge, nor any independent subscription fee. Therefore, the cost covers all the expenses related to the space, the setting up, the catalogue and web site spaces as well, liability insurance, power, the electric installation, the labelling, etc.
