The Walking Blind
Opening Thursday 16 October 2008, 8.00pm.
Zoumboulakis Galleries, 20 Kolonaki Square, Athens
Within the concept of ZONE D (www.zone-d.gr) Zoumboulakis Galleries proudly presents The Walking Blind, an installation by Evanthia Tsantila, on Thursday 16 October at Zoumboulakis Galleries.
The installation is based on archival material and the combination of dissimilar elements of artistic, political and historical references. Their blending creates a series of new narratives with the idea of the object as their common ground. With photographs, drawings, painting, sculpture and text, Tsantila creates a new space where material, the subject, becomes the object, the visual, the memory, the language.
Some of the elements used are: 'an image from the remains of the participation of a known Jewish- German architect in a secret project in 1973 in Utah, USA, interior and exterior shots of Breuer's modernist buildings, a group of strange girls walking, two men lying next to each other on top of benches, an undated, small ceramic object from central Asia, small objects in pairs, the forged handwriting of a famous man that describes something he never wanted to say'.
Evanthia Tsantila took part in the first ZONE D exhibition Places in ZONE D, with the work Standing. One of her most significant works, the video installation The Silence was presented at Volksbuehne am Rosa Luxemburg Platz in Berlin, in the 1st Biennale of Thessaloniki, in the Contemporary Centre of Art at Thessaloniki and in the exhibition In Silent Conversation with Ingmar Bergman at the Kunstmuseum Thun in Switzerland. |
