FABRIZIO PLESSI "DIGITAL STONES"
Press: Thursday September 15th, 11 am

Duration: September 16th to November 9th
At the opening speaks Gérard Goodrow, Director of the Art Cologne.
The Œuvre of the Italien artist Fabrizio Plessi raises like a mountain between the artists of the arte povera and the much more younger Transavanguardia. Since years, Plessi is occupied with categories of mythology and history. Topoi of fire and water evoke the presence of endlessness of time and space, first realitylike, then more and more represented by technical elements. Electronical waters, flickering fire, flowing time and piled up history manifest themselves in the huge video-sculptures, which Plessi had developed and established in art-history. He ist he inventor of the video-scupture.
The work of Plessi is settled on points of intersection between the being and appearance, reality and fiction, arte povera and art of media, archaic and high tech. The exhibition at the gallery shows some of his considerable work of the last years: Movimenti catodici Barocchi (1996/ 2002), cofessionals, hanging up side down, slowly centering the own axis, which remind in their larger-than-life size and arrangement in groups of a melancholic "dance macabre" (Gérard Goodrow).
Le Cariatidi dei Poveri (1996), which is dedicated to the the civil victimes of the massacre in Sarajewo, admonishes the enforced nomadism, which is caused by our civilizing dramas.
Steeples of suitcases, which are low illuminated with sporadic light bulbs, turn into stelas of horror.
Two different elements are meltimg together in the work Digital Stones (2004): the electronical fire, with which Plessi works since many years and the scripture, or more specified with the word: a totaly new element in his opus. The word "ART" can be equated with the pure and elementary character of fire and transportes thereby a superior, metaphysical level like art also does. Also the topic of dream is a new element in Plessis Œuvre (Traumwelt he called the retrospective in the Martin Gropius Building in Berlin in 2004.) "Dream" (2004), a videoinstallation with a heavy marbl stone, in which the word "TRAUM" is cutted induces to a inner expedition.
We would like to invite you cordially to this "ambitious, wagnerian trip" (Plessi), which takes a parallel course to the reality of every day's life.
