In connection with the state visit in Denmark of Tarja Halonen, the President of Finland, Galerie Asbæk presents a major exhibition of contemporary Finnish art.The exhibition, which is also the 25th anniversary exhibition of the gallery, will be opened by the President. But why choose Finnish art for the anniversary exhibition of Galerie Asbæk ? Well, back when we opened the gallery in the house on Gothersgade 89, the first exhibition was a comprehensive presentation of contemporary Finnish art. It was quite a success, and the best start imaginable for a newly established gallery. We are no longer newly established, but even though you are well-established you can still be innovative, inventive, and curious. It would have been an obvious idea to show how the artists we exhibited 25 years ago have developed. Instead, we chose to show an extract of contemporary art – art as it unfolds in Finland right now. Krista Mikkola was recommended for the position as curator, and by exclusively showing works by female artists, she has wanted to stress the fact that a woman has been elected as Head of State in Finland for the first time ever.
