Gallery Niklas Belenius is proud to present ''Onset'', our third solo exhibition of new works by Ivana Franke.
This time Franke's work draw inspiration from experimental methods and phenomena used in scientific research to test our perceptual thresholds and susceptibility to certain disorders; employing black and white striped patterns. Rather than using them to indicate our limits, in her works she uses these phenomena to elicit threshold experiences as an onset into the journey trough the cracks in our sense of stability of visual reality, and thus expanding our perception of reality itself.
The optokinetic piece ''Onset'', that lends its name to the exhibition, uses a moving visual field to change our sense of environment. The spatial translation of an earlier flickering light installation into ''Waking Background'' makes us aware of visual apprehension of our inner experiences. Franke's inventive approach seduces our curiosity and challenges us to take onr step further in the way we look at things.
