THE DURESS SERIES

"The Duress Series uses as subject matter persons under stress, from movies photographed from T.V. It is a subject I believe suitable for these trying times. The figures are contorted, and when painted a single hue, become abstract shapes.

Three levels of picture plane are employed: 1. A cut-out shape above the picture plane, 2. The picture plane itself, and, 3. A cut-out shape below the picture plane. The effect is slightly that of low relief sculpture and is intended to not allow a uniform, single planar reading."
