João Paulo Serafim, Palas no Acervo MIIAC, 2009
Inkjet on fine art, 140 x 160 cm. Edition of 5
The artist presents his most recent pictures that are the result of his investigation about the MIIAC, The improbable Museum of Images and Contemporary Art. This exposition works as a public introduction to get to know better the imaginary museum that is a creation of the artist. The artist leads us with the pictures through the museologic space: the exhibition galleries, the collection, the depot. . . Since 2005, the artist began to show a deeper interest for the logic of the museum and gallery spaces. Hence, his work of the last years is the reflex of this particular research: the MIIAC, an imaginary museum, turned into a stage for an imaginary space of personal and collective memories.
Joao Paulo Serafim presented this year already different expositions about the MIIAC, and we would like to draw special attention to his solo show in 2008 at the Centre Culturel Gulbenkian in Paris with itinerancy to the Blanes Museum in Montevideo.
In the last years he has been present with individual and collective expositions in institutions as the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the Serralves Foundation, the Communication Museum in Lisbon, and The Circle of Fine Arts in Madrid and The Helio Oiticica Art Centre in Rio de Janeiro between others. In 2005, he won the Award "Premio Purificacion Garcia".
