JOSÉ BECHARA
Duplo Oxy
Painting / Sculpture / Drawing
From March 26th to April 30th
José Bechara's second solo show in Lisbon is held again at Carlos Carvalho Arte Contemporânea. In this exhibition José Bechara is showing a series of 12 new drawings on paper called Casinha Inventada (A Casa do Futuro), carbon and steel sculpure work, as well as painting works all from his latest series Open House and produced exclusively for the show. Launched at the exhibition reception and edited in three languages (Portuguese, English and Spanish) Blefuscu developes Open House series of works, publishing texts by Delfim Sardo, Marylin Zeitlin and an interview of the artist by Glória Ferreira.
In his paintings he often buys used materials; coverings of trucks from truck drivers so this material already has the imprints and marks the time has left on them. Later on in the studio he uses the process and leaves the material to set so that the elements of heat and humidity or carbon and steel oxides can act freely and leave a deeper mark.
The House names Bechara´s installation and sculpture project. In this, José explores the concept of shelter and, starting from the familiar notion of housing, strives to establish physical, metaphysical and visual relations about habitat, creating poetic associations that encompass both its internal and external space. The furniture, all of it, is grouped together, stuck out through windows and outside doors. It betrays an order, if not a constructive one, one that was reorganized both methodically and rigorously.
