Introduction Dr. Petra Oelschlägel, Direktorin Städtische Galerie Villa Zanders, Bergisch Gladbach
Swiss artist Karim Noureldin is well-known in these parts for his drawings, not lastly, because of his solo exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Bonn in 2007. In art history, drawing as a medium often serves the primary function of artistic experimentation, and therefore, it frequently has the character of a draft or design drawing. By nature, it belongs on paper. Karim Noureldin has chosen drawing as his medium, only to attribute it an autonomy of its own. His architectural structures and constructs design spaces, abstract constructions which are placed in the center of the picture, or which later take up its entire surface. In addition to his drawings, he develops accompanying works that bear reference to the room, and include wall and floor paintings.
