 Paul Kessling, Downs Sunset West Ilsley, French Inks on Watercolour Paper, 36 x 84cm - £450 | | |
Paul Kessling
Paul Kessling works out in the open, usually at dawn or dusk as the shadows lengthen and the landscape comes alive. Painting wet-on-wet and using ink on pure cotton paper, Paul uses a Japanese brush, formed from very fine hairs that allow it to be loaded with distinct colours that bleed together as the brush moves accross the paper.
Paul Kessling trained at the Royal College of Art where he made sculpture in the landscape, this has evolved into a love of the landscape itself and how to paint it.

"Through painting I attempt to create an image which seems different each time you look at it - whether this depends on your mood at any particular moment or by taking a different focal point. Through this changing image I want you to be able to conjure up an atmosphere or a feeling from your own experience so that it involves you.
On a more universal level I would hope that the viewer may become more aware of the power of Nature and see things simply for what they are - realising our true relationship with our planet". Kathryn Thomas |
