»Seifenblasen und andere Lügenmärchen« 2011, Polaroid, 10,3 x 8,6 cm | | |
In »Seifenblasen und andere Lügenmärchen« ("Soap Bubbles and Other Cock-and-Bull Stories"), Konrad Mühe and Gabriel Rossell Santillán are exploring the interplay between real and fictitious stories as well as the role of physicality in their respective medium. Both artists are playing with the documentary qualities of the original material and its re-assembled editions. Gabriel Rossell Santillán transfers the scientific idea of a place into an installation with photographs that take up on the principles of landscape art in photography. Konrad Mühe constructs another encounter with his father Ulrich Mühe based on clips from his films and television appearances. In these fictitious talks and debates, probable answers to the artist's ongoing questions are being negotiated. Both artists pick up the topic of physicality in some of their works by choosing the material they used to create them - for instance when Mühe projects the video through a diagonally arranged glass plate onto a wooden board which is leaning against it in »Weißglas« ("White Glass").»Dschungel, Tempel, Pyramiden, Kathedralen, Hochhäuser« ("Jungles, Temples, Pyramids, Cathedrals, Tower Blocks") by Rossell Santillán consists of two photographs embedded into a steel frame. Weight and notion featured in the motif of the picture are transferred onto the rusting metal. Connecting these works in the gallery was a result of long debates and mutual inspiration. The echo leads to the creation of new contexts.
