In the first year after its 10th anniversary, the LISTE 06 – The Young Art Fair in Basel is introducing yet another new dimension. With a spectacular annex, the LISTE is creating ten new spaces for its exhibitors and in doing so is providing several of its galleries the chance to present longer at the LISTE than was
possible before. The LISTE is still the discoverer fair for young art par excellence – 22 of the 59 galleries from 24 countries are participating for the first time. Over the past several years, there has been increasing desire among some of the galleries to be able to present more than 3 – 4 times at the LISTE. At the same time, the crowds at the fair have constantly increased. The reason for the increase in numbers is the status that the LISTE enjoys in the art market as the most important fair for new galleries and the most contemporary young art. Ever true to its concept, the LISTE will continue to present
young artists under 40 and galleries which have been in existence for fewer than 5 years. After 2 to 4 years at the LISTE, many of the galleries succeed in making the leap to the “Statements” and “Premiere” at Art Basel. After an appearance at the “Statements/Premiere”, however, it becomes difficult to secure a large booth, mainly due to a lack of space. For that reason, many an important gallery with a young, exciting program is no longer present on the Basel art fair scene. Despite the limited number of spaces, in the first ten years of the LISTE’s existence, approximately one-third of its former participants have made the leap to Art Basel. In order to alleviate the difficulty of the situation, the LISTE is expanding and will create ten new spaces with a tent-like annex. So, the former brewery will be expanded with an architecturally striking tent-annex, designed by our architects, UNDEND of Zurich, and it will be home to ten exhibitors. For the financing of the project, we have put out a wide-ranging call for donations to collectors, former exhibitors, friends of art, and firms who would like to support this project. Of course, the ten exhibitors who will be allowed to present longer at the LISTE will be subject
to the same standards, and they will also be showing young, non-established art.
