Lucy Orchard returns to Modern Artists Gallery with a series of works that continue to explore her obsession with the sea. With this water colour series Lucy draws on her extraordinary maritime ancestral history, which includes seven generations of master mariners, a pirate from Bristol and, particular to these paintings, an able seaman aboard one of Nelson's first commands, HMS Badger.
Currently studying an MA in Art Psychotherapy, this new collection of watercolours is underpinned by the principles and theories of Art Psychotherapy and Jungian psychology, both of which place an emphasis on the exploration of one's own psychology through the act of creativity. Lucy uses the idea of the sea as a metaphor for the psyche - to explore one's own unconscious mind is like exploring the depths of the deepest oceans. Her latest paintings reflect this inner journey through the extremes of experience that make us who we are, from exquisite breathtaking moments to emotional desolation, and of the qualities of hope, perseverance, faith and trust.
