Can an lifeless object come to life? This is the question Manuel Graf poses in his new animated video-objects.
The works show a flat-screen on which an animated video is playing in an endless loop. A piece of furniture - a chair or sofa - acts as the holder of the screen as well as it is part of the animation and the object itself.
The monitor is the instrument through which the chair is transformed from a pure thing into a "living" object.
The result for the viewer is a peculiar immersive pull, whereby the perception of the piece of furniture is reduced in the real world and is increased in the virtual world. The nature of the design of the virtual world directly influences the types and magnitude of this effect. Manuel Graf binds the viewer to his work not only on a visual level - two flat-screens are aligned on a Day Bed, he switches the screens off and thus removes the visual component, but adds an acoustic stimulus instead. The window becomes a mirror! The viewer in its turn becomes part of the animation and his psyche transforms the work with each new viewing.
After the opening from 10 om we will be watching the opening game of the World Cup.
