According to Don Ihde, professor of philosophy and director of Technoscience Research Group, Maria Bussmann is an "artist-philosopher". Her drawings are a reflection of the essential philosophical works. The two currents, i.e. art and philosophy, take on a compact density in her works. As the artist herself says, "I often wonder whether artistic productivity (…..), when taken by itself, can be understood to make a contribution of equal value to a discussion about art philosophy and can thus share in determining philosophical discussions, or whether it can only join and illustrate an already existing thought structure."
