CLEVELAND - The Contessa Gallery is proud to once again bring to collectors and fans the works of Markus Pierson, a unique and widely recognized artist whose art has captured the hearts and imaginations of countless viewers worldwide.
Successful for his wildly imaginative paintings in the "Coyote Series," Markus Pierson is a testament to survival, triumph and the power of canines. Coyotes in suits. Coyotes in tutus. Coyotes in jailbird gear. Markus Pierson brings these fantasy-like creatures closer to reality through humorous and striking paintings and sculpture. Created with the eye of a master, Pierson's vibrant and often satirical works both lift the spirit and test one's beliefs.
Art collectors through their passion and commitment leave legacies. Markus Pierson created a series of unique "Sentinel" sculptures with that goal in mind - to both pay homage to important life experiences, as well as safeguard them for future generations. Through the sentinels, Pierson has taken The Coyote Series to yet another level. On view at Contessa Gallery will be the first three sculptures of the series.
The Dreamcatcher stands as a constant reminder that those who dream are borne by wings that carry them far. Choose a dream, deposit it in the heart of The Dreamcatcher for safekeeping and as the decades pass, your dreams will be held sacred. The Great Nuvolari reminds the owners to race through life, chasing every second of every day. P.O.S.H. suggests that if you live your life as an adventurer, if you go out and have vast experiences, and embark on great voyages, you will be known and remembered for generations to come. Each sculpture is hand-worked, incorporating elements of painting, lithography, sculpting, found-object placement, and Pierson's hallmark creative writing. Also on view at the Contessa Gallery will be Pierson's new original and limited-edition two-dimensional works.
From year to year Pierson's shows are an enormous success and attract hundreds of people to the Contessa Gallery. Now you too can come and experience the witty and intelligent world of Pierson's coyotes and get a chance to meet the artist and learn more about his amazing story of hope, survival and commitment to his ideas and vision.
