Born in 1952, Martin Parr has turned the glare of saturated colour photography to the world around him. His early series of photographs concentrated on the English working class, capturing their leisure and play time. Rather than using black and white photography, troped as it was with the idea of working class hardships, Parr captured the frivolous colour and rococo decoration of the everyday. He was admitted to the prestigious photographer's group Magnum in 1988. At the time, Henri Cartier-Bresson described him as from a "different solar system". He has produced a large number of books both on his own work and on the history of photography. He has exhibited widely, including Tate Modern, London and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. He lives and works in Europe.
