MIAO XIAOCHUN - MICROCOSM
Miao Xiaochun creates by use of photography and modern computer animation programs montages of European masterpieces in virtual reality, as for example "The Garden of Delight" by Hieronymus Bosch. He replaces all human figures of the original painting with a digitalized image of himself. The results are large-sized paraphrases, captivating through visual splendor and an irritating discrepancy regarding the historical paragon.
By taking over the role of all figures in the original painting, Miao is provoking a crucial question concerning the christian devouted concept of culture: Who am I, when I unite all characters in mine, good and bad? He replaces the separation into heaven and hell, unknown to Asian spiritual identity, with Yin and Yang, which complement and require each other. Hereby the original meaning is modified into a classical chinese image of a harmonious entity.
The artist will be present.
