Curator: Miguel von Hafe Perez
Miguel Palma, is being referred to as one of the most relevant Portuguese contemporary artists. He creates art works that explore the urgency of the technological progress - so characteristic for our actual society -, proposing alternative paths (as well as ironic ones) to this immeasurable ambition. His work distinguishes itself not only by this visionary capacity of architecting projects that characterize the dynamic of life and its times.
Over the last years, Palma's work has been discovered by the North-American art scene, being already very present in projects realized in the USA.
Standing out are his participation at the First Biennial of New Orleans, Prospect.1 curated by Dan Cameron and his artist residencies at Location One and ISCP (International Studio & Curatorial Program) in New York, as well as at the Center of the Arts HEADLANDS, California.
He is a constant presence in Portuguese institutions (Culturgest, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Museu Berardo e Museu do Chiado em Lisboa; Museu de Serralves no Porto), as well as in international ones (MUDAM, Luxemburgo; Museu Pateo Herreriano, Espanha; Villa Arson, Centre de Création Contemporain de Tours, França; Witte de With, Holanda; Bloomberg Space, Reino Unido).
For the new gallery space Miguel Palma proposes his most recent project "Exposição Solar", a powerful site-specific installation. |
