About CARS, because the automobile has significantly influenced the 20th Century and even in times of climatic changes, social-economic modifications and increasing unimployment-rates.
The Status of the automobile in terms of mobility, as a "Cult- and Identification-model" (1), a „Myth" (2) and a "Fetish-object" seems unbroken.
Pirmin Blum is using Footage-Material from the Internet, Gottfried Bechtold´s yearlong approach to the Myth "automobile" and the idea of "movement" ("Concrete-Porsche-Series" = Transformation of a high-speed-tool into a (still) concrete-sculpture") is rooted autobiographically. Sissi Farassat is posing in her embroidered Photos in front of "male-phantasies" and so questions the klischee of a direct relation between "muscle-cars" and "Pin-up-girls" ?. About CARS and IRRITATION is also the displayed work by Erwin Wurm.
(1) Since 1975 BMW let create 16 "BMW-ART-CARS" by well known international artists.
(2) Roland Barthes started working on the phenomenon "automobile" about 50 ago on behalf of his essays "Myths of Everyday-life". After all Barthes understood the "automobile" as an object. The topic of the book "Myths of Everyday-life" is not so much litterature but a particular aspect of Social- Mythology: The Modern Myth. In "Myths of Everydayl-life" Barthes is collecting that material out of arbitrary chosen topics which is best suited to reflect the Myths of the modern french eyeryday-life. |
