Breaking the News
is the title marking the start of a new exhibition series in which I give young art academy graduates a platform in my gallery.
The first show features works by PASCAL SCHWENDENER who was a student of Peter Doig at the Art Academy Düsseldorf. The starting point of his artistic work is creation as an existential necessity. With this attitude, he was already under way for a number of years at night with a spray can in the Swiss town of St. Gallen before he began his art studies. With the monumental work, "Me my- self and I", which is at the centre of the show, he intuitively explored his artistic self for more than six months. During his quest, he experimented with many different media: painting, drawing, screen print, comics, and film, repeatedly breaking open various forms of expression, for example, opening up painting to the moving image through film projection.
He has been producing handmade stop-motion animations under the name "3EK-Production" since 2010.
