In the exhibition Chama Dupla, PAULO BRIGHENTI presents new work in painting, drawing, watercolor and objects, continuing his investigation on color and light.
The circus show on which the exhibition’s title is based, and one that lies on a permanent equilibrium effort between two opposite forces, functions as a metaphor for a reflection about life and death. The game of distances that is played by polarities, witnesses, in the end, their infinite proximity, where each one’s autonomous nature is affirmed necessarily by the engaged existence with its contrary. In PAULO BRIGHENTI's work, this interdependency of antagonistic movements is expressed through exchanges between positive and negative values, light and shadow areas, and the alternation between small scale and large scale, manifesting their simultaneously close and distant nature.
The dilution of recognizable motifs and others of abstract suggestion over the background, attenuates the division between things and the world from which they are outlined. In this sense, Time is prefigured as the condition for unveiling the image, as its perception depends on the habituation of the spectator’s gaze, adjusted to each new encounter.
The painted form becomes rarefied, from a superficial phenomenon of immediate reading turned to a spectral residue of a broader meaning, within a process grounded on the possibility of asserting Painting as something other than the acritical support form the two-dimensional image.
