The CCA Andratx is pleased to present the new exhibition by the Spanish artist, New York-based, Pepa Prieto (Granada, 1973). "I have not come to see the Sky" presents a selection of her recent work made between 2012 and 2013.
Her work focuses on the idea of "change". As she says, her works become diary sheets where, as a visual worker, she pours her emotions and experiences while investigates to seek new territories and feelings.
Throughout the nearly 20 works comprising the exhibition, concepts such as change, transformation or metamorphosis are very present in her work and lead to representations of what Prieto calls her universes: virtual landscapes, jungles, ritual objects, totemic constructions, rituals, patterns and colours; memory extractions.
Pepa Prieto studied at the Complutense University of Madrid (where she also obtained her MFA). Throughout her career she has combined both, a closely linked line to graphic commercial design, creating projects for major brands such as MTV, PONY, Orange, etc. and a pictorial line. Her work has been shown in a large number of national and international exhibitions, among which stand out: 2013: “Hand Lo”, Circuit 12 Contemporary Gallery (Dallas, U.S.), the Biennale of Mykonos (GR), “Escape Velocity”, Mirus Gallery (San Francisco, U.S.). 2012: “Grafika”, Villa Audi Foundation (Beirut), Amman National Gallery and the Museum of History of Zaragoza.
