PREVIEW BERLIN 2012
From September 13 to 16 PREVIEW BERLIN is presenting its eighth edition as co-initiator of the BERLIN ART WEEK. Since 2005, the Berlin art fair PREVIEW BERLIN has shown what makes the art scene in Berlin so unique, showcasing the latest trends.
Originally conceived as a satellite to the ART FORUM BERLIN, in its first few years of existence the PREVIEW BERLIN represented a new generation of national and international galleries and project spaces, while also allowing an art fair presence for new distribution models such as cooperative galleries. The focus of the art fair was on emerging artists from the local Berlin art scene, as well as other vibrant regions in Europe and the world, with the aim of showing challenging emerging art on the international art market at a very early stage.
With the discontinuation of the main art fair, the PREVIEW BERLIN ART FAIR 2012 in its eighth edition has reacted to the needs of art market players by expanding its dynamic profile. Along with international newcomers, established galleries are now also invited to share their promising positions in Hangar 2 of Berlin’s former Tempelhof Airport: in a setting of spacious white cube exhibition stands and open areas for large-scale installations and performance pieces. Over the years, the optimised design of the exhibition has highlighted the communicative qualities of such an art market event. The exhibition architecture enables visitors to compare the gallery presentations, while also providing exhibitors with their own presentation spaces, and collectors with the desired intimacy. A central lounge provides a meeting point for more than 12,000 visitors and serves as a venue for the well-rounded supporting programme featuring tours, dinners, receptions and discussions. At the same time, the VIP programme ensures that visitors to the city have access to the multifaceted Berlin art scene. In collaboration with our institutional partners and independent projects, we implement special events that bring about personal and profound insights.
With an international and forward-looking perspective, we have developed various art fair cooperations, including with the SWAB in Barcelona and the FRESH PAINT in Tel Aviv. A further cooperation is planned with the CONTEMPORARY ISTANBUL, allowing promising artists and artistic activity to become clear and visible outside of established art locations.
We are pursuing with great interest the development of an additional plug-in: the FOCUS ACADEMY, which addresses art schools and their graduates in a new format, conceptually complementing the Preview Berlin platform.
