Lowave is an independent film label founded in 2002 in France by Marc Horchler and Silke Schmickl to promote experimental film and contemporary video art and make them accessible beyond the film festival and gallery circuit. Through the years Lowave has collaborated with a large number of artists from much varied backgrounds working with different techniques and multiple means of expression.
This exhibition gathers for the first time in Denmark a number of videos from the Lowave's growing archive and provides an insight into the vibrant world of contemporary artistic creations. From the groundbreaking RESISTANCE (S)-anthologies, which put into perspective thematic video art from the Middle East and North Africa to the urban landscapes where man almost dissolves like in HC Gilje's CITYSCAPES or videos in the CITY2CITY collection, the exhibition highlights unknown affinities and underlying trends in the way video artists from around the world are still experimenting with the medium. From the abstract fusion of nature and sound in Yuki Kawamura's SLIDE to the food-based performances in Triny Prada FOOD FOR THOUGHT, via the "warm" rationality of Hugo Verlinde's COSMOGONIES, the videos tell the story of our fragmented experience of the world and man's almost desperate attempt to explore his feelings and surroundings. Sensual images side by side with political observations, trance-like sounds and postcolonial realities are made visible and form the background for Lowave's aesthetic choices. |
