RUI VASCONCELOS

Rui Vasconcelos has been exhibiting his work since 1998. In 2000, his work was featured in the exhibition Últimos Dias (Last Days), held at the Modern Art Centre. His career since then has been discreet, progressing to the slow, meticulous and detailed rhythms of his draughtsmanship and colouring.
This exhibition features three encaustic paintings, two of which of large dimensions, and four other drawings in gouache, charcoal and ink.
His landscapes, progressively and modularly constructed, repeat an archetype adhered to by the artist and that can be recognised in all his creations, small variations notwithstanding. The location defined by this landscape is dense and infinite in the microcosm to which each large smudge representing a forest is directed.
