Bernhard Buhmann is the rare case of an artist who creates the full impact of art history concentrated in one single painting. Yet his style is still individual, displaying a unique sense for atmosphere and composition, which makes his art timeless. He incorporates a broad variety of subjects that circle around a very concise theme, and combines them with a highly sophisticated choice of colour and form. His paintings are two-dimensional dioramas inhabited by vagabonds, gentlemen and craftsmen, premature girls about to set sail, melancholy snowmen melting away. Everything covered with a patina of gold, the dust of mystery, where thunderous clouds collide with rainbows: a kind of modern alchemy, an opus magnum that sucks the audience directly into a narration full of marvel and wonder.
