Sebastian Schrader „Black Field “130 x 150 cm, oil on canvas, 2012. courtesy maerzgalerie
Schrader's paintings are insistent; dominant physicalness, dynamic gestures, fierce movements. Even in restposes, the figures are intensively present, with vigorously shaped body parts next to expressive image parts.
Schrader sympathizes with the weary thrown-out-of-life heroes. He draws the munobtrusively and without polemic; the refusal of the world, thepervasivepreoccupationwiththeselfandtheinevitableevasionintothefringeareasoflife.
The exhibition reveals an exceptionally multiform manner of painting on its climax; detailed ness and fragment, old-masterly characteristics and expressive colour fields complement each other along with the high contental demand to a one-of-a-kind position.
