The group show Selva Obscura (opening thursday 23th february), curated by Giovanni Cervi, 19 artists with about 40 works, situates for the first time Neopantheism, an art trend spread in all the world.
Chris Berens, Lisa Black, Daniel Martin Diaz, Tessa Farmer, Lisa Mei Ling Fong, Skeleton Heart, David Hochbaum, Bethany Marchman, Nunzio Paci, Michael Page, Marcus Poston, Hikari Shimoda, David Stoupakis, Squp, Eric van Straaten, Kevin Earl Taylor, Raf Veulemans, Fernanda Veron, Nicol Vizioli through different media and languages on their works, emphasize the Nature (mother or stepmother) with disenchant or hope.
Neopantheist artists are developing a new mythology that blends last century pop culture, classic inspiration and alchemical animism.
Our ecosystem uncertainly swings between Heaven and Hell, neopantheist artist put himsels upon it, on its zenit, when he looks down on it, he shows the possible roads we couldn't see. Some paths bring to reality devastation or to renaissance of a more nature-friendly world, some other ones leave from new almost alternative assumptions, they remodel the past to get a better present and a better future.
Destruction phase, as a transformation and not as a reality annihilation, is celebrated by David Stoupakis's romantic and dark painting, by Tessa Farmer's apocalyptic taxydermic installations, by Nunzio Paci's and Raf Veulemans's pictorial stratifications; Michael Page enlightens us with an almost surreal arborvitae, David Hochbaum's pictures set nature ghosts in motion, Hikari Shimoda's acid painting mentions mangas and childish perversions, Daniel Martin Diaz refers to alchemical symbols crossing and to the dia de los muertos messicano.
Renaissance phase is synthesized by Eric van Straaten's and Skeleton Heart's sculptures, very different in their style but with fairy elements in common, anthropomorphous animals characterize Bethany Marchman's oils, fairy and hyperrealistic painting is Chris Berens's peculiarity; divinities are inedited in Squp's, Nicol Vizioli's and Fernanda Veron's mystical pictures. Uchronia, the alternative history, is the land of Lisa Black's steampunk sculpture (that combines taxydermy and metal), of Kevin Earl Taylor's visionary painting and of Marcus Poston's and Lisa Mei Ling Fong's lost and reivented objects assemblages.
It's our choice between carry on entropy and armony road, between higher disorder and respect for Nature.
