Sue Bartlett, Agent Provocateur Cupcake, 40 x 40cm. Wax and glass and canvas on board - £350 | | |
Sue Bartlett comes from a family of artisans - her parents, grandparents and siblings have made their living as furniture makers, seamstresses and french polishers. The familiar scents and textures of their raw materials were part of her childhood and she felt that although their 'art' was their occupation, there was still a deep fulfilment in the production of something extraordinary out of the very ordinary. It is this fascination with the process of making and the experimentation with materials that she brings to her own work, producing colourful, abstract wax pieces that are tactile and have been described as 'organic' and almost 'edible'. She enjoys the idea that they appear to be spontaneous and gestural and yet are very carefully considered both in the choice of shape and form and of colour.
Sue's images have proved to be extremely popular with interior designers and she undertakes regular commissions and one-off pieces for specific room settings. One of her recent projects involved a canvas of gigantic proportions at almost 6ft in width. Her work can be found in private collections both in the UK, Europe and as far afield as Dubai. |
